Meet the Team

Meet our wonderful team who all bring different experiences and interests to the riding school. You can be assured that they will keep a watchful eye on your progress ensuring safe (and fun!) learning.

All of our instructors are BHS qualified, DBS checked and first aid trained.

Sophie Byfield
I started riding at The Horseshoes Riding School at 7. I became a club assistant at the age of 17. After finishing secondary school I did a gap year in Australia working on a sheep and cattle farm and also a Polo Groom before travelling the East Coast.
I graduated from Writtle University with BSC (Hons) in Equine Studies and rejoined Horseshoes as a Junior Instructor in 2009. I currently compete with my horse Tallulah and am pursuing my dream to ride to Prix St George level in dressage.
Lisa Makin
I am a full time instructor at the Horseshoes Riding School where I have been teaching for 6 years and have been riding for 30 years!
I enjoy show jumping and doing cross country with my mare, Kit and I completed our first Hunter Trials last year.
Louisa Bishop
I have been riding since early childhood and was lucky enough to get my own pony, Whisper, at the age of 8. I continued riding at the Horseshoes Riding School on my Mother’s horse, Monty, once I had outgrown Whisper.
By the age of 16 I was competing locally in dressage competitions. My new horse, Fergus is a 5 yr old Irish sports horse and I plan to event him this year.
Jessica Simmonds
I started riding at the age of 4 and have been riding for 15 years. I started as a club assistant member at the Horseshoes Riding School every Saturday and as soon as I left school I became a full time member of the team. In the future I would like to compete in show jumping and dressage and hopefully reach a high level!
Kelly Reynolds
I started riding at the Horseshoes Riding School at the age of 5. I then volunteered here between the ages of 10-16 and at 14 got my own horse, Jazz. In the 13 years of having Jazz I have done local shows and jumping clinics and he has really put me through my paces when it came to exams; stage 1, Riding and Road Safety, NVQ 2&3.
I became a Mummy in 2014 but returned to the Horseshoes part-time to allow me to continue doing what I love!
Lora Fisher
After leaving secondary school in 1999, I followed my passion for horses at Hadlow College where I gained a First Diploma in Horse studies, a National Certificate in Horse Management and a National Diploma in Horse Management. I also achieved my Riding and Road Safety and Stages 1 and 2 and continued my training at Bedgebury where I took my Stage 3 and PTT in 2004. I really enjoy being part of the team at Horseshoes and have been made to feel very much at home here.
